From theory to practice: Our research-based method for team development.
Four Key Functions
SPGR emphasizes that groups must combine control and caring to ensure both productivity and well-being, while simultaneously balancing opposition and dependence to reconcile critical thinking with the ability to act collectively. This flexibility is a clear sign of a mature team with high potential for success.
Why is this a good method?
Leadership in modern entrepreneurship and in project-based businesses requires new knowledge and the right tools to prepare people for an increased pace of change and new challenges. This challenges the leader's ability to create good relationships and constructive collaboration.
SPGR is a method with well-documented theory, and the tools you need to develop the team for flow and speed. The method is based on many years of research in psychology, organizational development, and systems theory. The theory is based on 40 years of experience, combined with an advanced data-driven tool. Additionally, the analysis base has been developed and improved over the years, basing its results on thousands of other analyses.

Founder, Endre Sjøvold explains:
"To handle new situations, tasks, or internal challenges, group members must be able to shift between behavior that supports effective production (control functions) and caring functions. In other words, a group must balance the control and caring functions over time."
A Scientific Approach
We base our work on the SPGR model, a research-based framework that emphasizes balance as the key to effective groups. High-functioning teams fluidly switch between various functions to handle both tasks and relationships. Over decades, SPGR analyses have been developed that utilize sophisticated algorithms to shed light on the dynamics that arise in groups.
The Method
Essentially, there are two types of data collection that form the basis for SPGR analyses:
Assessments given by standardized SPGR instruments where group members observe the interaction in the group themselves.
Data from direct observation using the SPGR category system, either through manual observation (trained observer) or by using sensor technology (automatic).
Regardless of the data source, level, or algorithm, the analyses are comparable. Virtually all analyses are drawn using the same template, and what registers on a vector in one analysis corresponds to what registers in the same way in another analysis. For example, one can directly see how exercised leadership corresponds with the organization’s values or how the culture in one unit deviates from another.
To make the administration of surveys easy for the user, "One-Click" standard reports have been created for the most frequently used analyses, while we offer great flexibility and customization for other analyses.
